The Client Challenge

The Challenge

The Challenge

A global manufacturing and distribution enterprise relied heavily on SharePoint Online and custom SPFx applications to support internal operations, employee collaboration, and business-critical workflows. As new features and updates were released, unexpected UI regressions and integration issues frequently impacted portal stability.

The organization faced recurring challenges with broken navigation components, inconsistent user experiences across browsers, and failures in SharePoint REST API and Microsoft Graph integrations. These issues often went unnoticed until after deployment, creating disruption for both office and operational teams.

Manual regression testing had become a significant bottleneck. The QA team spent more than 60 hours per sprint executing repetitive test scenarios, increasing release timelines while still allowing defects to reach production. The business needed a scalable testing strategy that could improve quality without slowing delivery.

Our approach

How we made it happen

Our Approach

Softree implemented a comprehensive SharePoint and SPFx automation testing framework designed to validate user interfaces, APIs, and critical integrations throughout the development lifecycle.

The solution leveraged Selenium WebDriver to automate end-to-end testing of SharePoint portals and SPFx components across multiple browsers. Automated API validation was introduced for SharePoint REST APIs and Microsoft Graph services to identify integration issues before they affected end users.

To support continuous delivery, the automation framework was integrated into Azure DevOps pipelines. Every code change triggered automated test execution, quality checks, and reporting, enabling development teams to identify defects early and release updates with greater confidence. The framework was built using reusable test components, ensuring maintainability as the SharePoint environment evolved.

The outcome

What changed for the client

The Outcome

The automation initiative significantly improved application quality, release confidence, and testing efficiency across the organization's SharePoint ecosystem.

Automated regression testing reduced production defects by 50%, while achieving a 98% automated test pass rate across critical business applications. Cross-browser validation ensured a consistent user experience across five major browsers, resulting in a 43% improvement in UI stability.

By integrating automated testing into Azure DevOps pipelines, the organization accelerated release cycles, reduced manual testing effort, and established a scalable quality engineering practice. With a robust automation foundation now in place, the client is well-positioned to expand testing coverage, support future SharePoint modernization initiatives, and maintain high-quality digital experiences as the platform grows.

Scaling Quality Engineering Across the Enterprise

Following the success of the SharePoint and SPFx automation program, the organization plans to expand automated testing coverage to additional Microsoft 365 workloads, business applications, and enterprise integrations. Future initiatives include performance testing, accessibility validation, AI-assisted test generation, and advanced quality analytics to further improve software reliability and operational efficiency.
