Healthcare Data Validation and Quality Assurance
Explore an AI-powered healthcare data validation platform designed to test data integrity across patient records, lab results, and insurance claims.

Business Process Challenges
The proposed of the project addresses data-quality challenges faced by a healthcare technology provider integrating electronic health records (EHR), laboratory information systems (LIS), and insurance claims platforms. Healthcare data arrives from multiple systems in different formats, making consistent validation difficult.
The existing workflow relies on manual reviews, predefined validation rules, and system-specific checks. These methods can miss complex inconsistencies, increasing the risk of operational delays, inaccurate reporting, duplicate records, and rejected insurance claims.
Key challenges included:
- Missing or incomplete patient data: Required identifiers, collection dates, and specimen information may be absent.
- Inconsistent laboratory results: Incompatible units, invalid reference ranges, and mismatched patient identifiers require investigation.
- Insurance claim validation errors: Missing procedure codes and inconsistent billing details can affect claim processing.
- Duplicate and conflicting records: Patient records and laboratory orders may be duplicated across connected systems.
- Time-consuming manual reviews: QA and operations teams spend significant time investigating routine errors rather than prioritizing complex data-quality issues.
Our Strategic Approach
Softree's proposed approach combines deterministic validation rules with AI-assisted anomaly detection to identify data-quality issues and support structured QA workflows. The platform is designed to validate incoming healthcare records, reconcile information across connected systems, and route suspicious records for authorized review.
The QA approach covers the application lifecycle, from requirement analysis and test data preparation to API testing, AI evaluation, performance testing, security checks, and release readiness.
- Rule-based validation: Check mandatory fields, data types, formats, duplicate records, and business rules.
- AI-assisted anomaly detection: Identify unusual data patterns and evaluate false positives, false negatives, precision, and recall against labeled test data.
- Cross-system reconciliation: Verify consistency between EHR, LIS, and insurance claims APIs.
- Functional and API testing: Validate request and response schemas, integration workflows, error handling, retries, and duplicate submissions.
- Security and performance testing: Assess role-based access, sensitive-data exposure, response times, throughput, and concurrent requests.
- Auditability and human oversight: Track validation outcomes, rule or model versions, reviewer actions, and resolution history. Flagged clinical data remains subject to appropriate human review.

What changed for the client.
The proposed platform establishes a structured approach to healthcare data validation and AI-focused quality assurance. Its intended business value is earlier identification of data inconsistencies, improved traceability, and more efficient investigation of routine data-quality issues.
The source includes an illustrative QA evaluation scenario, not results from an actual production deployment.
- 240 test cases executed: Illustrative functional, integration, security, performance, and AI test coverage.
- 95% initial test pass rate: 228 of 240 illustrative test cases passed initially.
- 92% AI anomaly precision: Illustrative evaluation result indicating the proportion of flagged anomalies confirmed as genuine in the test dataset.
- 100% regression suite execution: All tests in the defined illustrative regression suite were executed.
These figures should be labeled as illustrative if published. Actual improvements in processing time, claim rejection rates, or manual effort require measured pre- and post-implementation evidence.
The proposed approach provides a foundation for improving healthcare data integrity while keeping validation decisions traceable, explainable, and subject to appropriate clinical oversight.
