No-Code Solutions to Enhance SharePoint Performance

  • Posted by: Softree Technology

no-code-solutuions-toRight out of the box, SharePoint offers a set of useful tools that can be used to smooth the progress of document sharing and to encourage data visualization. However, poor performance issue is one of the frustrating tribulations that all SharePoint administrators have to face every now and then, which turns the whole experience into a disaster. All you have to do is to find the causes of the problem to sort it out and improve the overall performance. Here are some tips by our offshore SharePoint developers.

Design Fault

There is no doubt that SharePoint is one of the most multifaceted applications, which indicates that the more straightforward the process, easier the deployment will be. However, sometimes developers follow a less effective approach due to budget limitation or lack of know how. Everything looks fine from the beginning, but with the time performance issues will pop up if design fault is there.

Solution

There is no universal fix. SharePoint deployment being unique to each organization, it’s the job of the individual administrator to find the solution at the right time. What’s the good news?   Yes there is!  If you are not using an independent SharePoint deployment, it will be easy for you to deal with this problem.  Issues such as faulty network usage can be corrected by redirecting traffic streams and adding network interface cards.

 Storage Bottleneck

From many problems associated with SharePoint application, storage gridlock is one of them. In simple terms: “application cannot acquire sufficient bandwidth” OR “storage sub system can’t render adequate reads and writes to non-contiguous storage locations”.

Solution

One of the best solutions to this problem is to use SSD drives (Solid-State Drives) to store the transaction logs, so that all the flash appliances can work properly.  Transaction logs should be allotted a faster memory drive as they are the bottleneck in SharePoint application. Another fact to consider is BLOBs, in the form of which, SharePoint data is stored, which needs to be moved out of the SQL server for faster performance.

Insufficient Memory

As mention earlier, SharePoint is a multifaceted application, hence consumes a lot of memory. While noticing any performance issues, make sure your SharePoint servers have enough memory before trouble-shooting.

Solution

You need to remember that your virtual machine, on which SharePoint is running, is not configured to use dynamic memory as it is not supported. Memory distribution system should be configured carefully; otherwise trouble-shooting can be very difficult. There are some useful tools that you can use for trouble-shooting, such as: System Center Operations Manager, Windows Performance Monitor, System Resource Monitor and SharePoint Best Practices Analyzer.

Antivirus Software

Your antivirus software installed in the system can prevent SharePoint application to start with a message like “Access Denied”.

Solution

Your antivirus software can cause performance issues sometimes, so you may have to exclude all SharePoint application while performing specific folder scan, such as:

  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010
  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013
  • Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013
  • Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016
  • Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

If recovery model for the content database is set to full

In case you notice lag in content loading at the time of migration, then it’s time to set the recovery mode to simple. As this element allows for recovery using transaction logs, this will eventually slow down the whole process. This mode should be set to full once you are done with the migration. The most important factor to remember is, right before the migration, you need to backup your data as auto recovery may not work when the recovery model for the content database is set to low.

File Interdependency

The issue related to File Interdependency is often over looked thinking it as a hardware problem, but it may create problem between the core technologies and files. Abeyance can be the result of the connected components not working the way they are meant to. So it is suggested to scrutinize data prior to making changes. Once you are able to find out the events leading the issue, then you can connect the dots and find the root cause.

That’s not it. There are many other problems, for which you need to seek help of a SharePoint consultant. Some SharePoint issue can only be identified by an expert.
